Note, this schedule is subject to change. It was last updated on November 10, 2020.
This quarter, the schedule will will follow two parallel tracks at the same time – a Lab Project Track and a Lecture // Journal Club Track.
On the Lab Project Track, students will be working in groups of about 3 on longer, semi-open-ended projects. These projects are designed to expose you to different areas of physics, to give you practice in collaboration, design, data collection and data analysis, and to provide an opportunity to experience what larger-scale, research-like experimental science is like.
Homework (including the Python Tutorial) is to be completed individually in the first few weeks of the quarter.
Projects 1 and 2 will each include 4 weeks of group work and an individual report at the end.
On the Lecture // Journal Club Track, we will provide more general information and practice in experimental skills, including uncertainty estimation, programming, analysis, and writing. In particular, this quarter we will spend the last few weeks on a beginners journal club where we will read and discuss published papers in order to learn about science communication.
Wednesday Lectures and Workshops will be held via Zoom on the first five Wednesdays from 6:30 - 7:50 pm. Some material will be presented a lectures, while some will be presented as interactive workshops.
Journal Club will take place in the last four weeks of the quarter. Times and groups will be arranged at a later date.
