Bowling Ball Pendulum

A bowling ball is suspended by a non-stretching wire rope to create a large simple pendulum which transverses most of the width of the lecture hall. One may stand against a wall and release the bowling ball from the tip of one's nose to show that it cannot achieve the height from which it was released.

Fire Extinguisher Cart

A carbon dioxide fire extinguisher is strapped to a cart onto which a stool is mounted. A person sitting on the cart releases some of the contents of the fire extinguisher and is propelled across the room.

Setup

Use head and ear protection. Make sure nozzle is pointing directly away from the wheel trajectory and that tank is full (empty, it weighs roughly 30lbs, full roughly 50lbs).

Self-Synchronizing Metronomes

Several metronomes set at the same frequency but running initially out of phase self-synchronize due to the coupling permitted by a freely rolling base.

Setup

To set up:

	* wind up the metronomes fully
	* place metronomes on top of the board on the marked locations
