You will be working in a chemical preparation area, as such there are certain protocols which you are required to follow.
Absolutely no food or drink allowed in the chemical prep room, including sealed unopened containers.
After working in the chemical prep room wash your hands thoroughly before handling any food or drink.
All liquid samples must be labeled. For the small sample vials it is sufficient to place them in a single container which itself is properly labeled. Labels must contain the following information.
Full name of chemicals used.
Name of person who prepared the samples.
Date on which samples were prepared.
Solutions should not be left in open top beakers or similar containers. Any solutions which you wish to keep over night should be transferred to properly labeled bottles or vials which can be sealed.
The bottle of $CuSO_{4}$ should be capped and returned to the yellow chemical storage cabinet when you are finished with it.
At the end of the lab all $CuSO_{4}$ solutions should be transferred to the appropriate waste container.
You are responsible for thoroughly cleaning all apparatus, including sample vials at the end of the lab.
Not adhering to these rules can result in course grade reductions and even possible expulsion from the course.
When preparing solutions of $CuSO_{4}$ and water keep the following points in mind.
The best source of water is to use DDI water from William Irvin's lab in GCIS. A 1l bottle is adequate. Commercially purchased DDI water will probably work just fine, but it will not be as pure as what you get from William's lab.
Sample vials and glassware need to be thoroughly cleaned and completely dry before use. I recommend collecting everything that will be needed and washing it first thing. Then allow it to dry over night before using. If you want to hurry the process you can rinse with isopropol to get rid of as much water as possible.
The bottle of $CuSO_{4}$ should be kept in the chemical storage cabinet when not in use to maintain compliance with the campus safety office.
